Obamamerica

I am not a Barack Obama supporter. I question his motives and also don't like the fact that he is supported by corporate banking shills. I see a large dichotomy between what he preached about in his campaign and what he is actually doing. Having our future sold into taxation and continually widening the gap between the rich and poor isn't much of a change. Now, most peopl are cool with me stating that i don't like the guy but if i start getting into my reasons for not liking him, people either assume that i am a racist or that i am a consperiacy theorist. Most of these people preach about how riduculously ignorant a person has to be to be racist, but pay little attention to how ignorant they themselves are to the way our government works. My arguments have nothing to do with his race except for the fact that he is the first black person to SELL us the idea of America and make sure that his friends who paid for most of his campaign ($1.5 billion dollars) don't lose any money. Just because he is black doesn't make him any less of a puppet than George Bush. It is just a lot harder to read between the lines with him because he is a better liar, er, speaker than Bush was. Why is it taboo to be skeptical about politics and why do people get so worked up about his race? (beyond the whole "touchy feely" look how far we've come argument. I know, and must say that i am absolutely tickled that we live in a country where big business finally gave us a black man as one of the two options we had for president. That doesn't change a damn thing.)

  1. In a nice way, you should watch your mouth. It is important to let your oppinions be heard, but when you start stateing facts, it becomes very easy to step on your own tounge.

As far as the lying goes, lets look at politics as a whole. Do you find it odd that the American Public thinks they know 90% of what is going in politics, but in reality they know more like 10%? It is not hard to see. Politishions are always dodging their way around questions ect. It takes ten (10) years for classified documents to be unclassified. If that is not a way to minipulate the interest of the public, I don't know what it is. In ten years, the only people that are going to care are the historians.

    It is all politics.

Like everything, Politics is a structure and it is important to understand how this perticular structure works before we let it make us furious. Yeah, money is an important aspect of putting a person into the White House, but there are many more circumstances that we need to concider.

When it comes to Presidential elections, it is better not to complain about the canidates, but use your time and determin the lesser of two evils. Of course, around election your going to have some persistent people stating their views and esspecially this last election. I'm not going to go into the diffrences between Oboma and McCane, but if we put in the effort and dig a little deeper, Oboma is clearly the lesser of two evils.

And in all honesty, you should have left out that whole last part.

"i am absolutely tickled that we live in a country where big business finally gave us a black man as one of the two options we had for president. That doesn't change a damn thing.)"

I'm not trying to attack you personally, but I would argue based on the last part of the post that your racist and probablly don't even realize. I'm not going to make that argument now, but welcome to to a capitalistic society. "Big business" and the wealthy elite has ran this country since the beginning. What makes you think they don't in the twenty first century?

If I hated African-Americans, I would have still voted for Oboma based off of McCane's approach to the issues alone.

  2. after reading this i would have to agree with what travis has said. our country is based off of big business and that hasn't changed. i don't really agree with you saying that obama is a better liar that bush. if bush was a bad lier how did he get ellected into office a second term? obviously enough people couldn't see through his lies because he was given another four years to continue them. the main point i agree with is that it comes down to picking the less of two evils and obama is the better choice.

  3. i agree with the two people above, big business drives this country, we have such a high demand to drive the right car, spend money on certain things, and have the perfect house in a perfect neighborhood to be "AMerican" and have accomplished something. Obama has taken steps with his stimulus plan to get Americans out of debt, because we are all stuck in the same rut, and McCain would be in the same situation dealing with the recession, and personally i am glad our country was smart enough to make a change and not worry about electing a black president just because he is black.

  4. My main objection to this whole debate is the fact that we have people voting for the lesser of two evils. And if this is the cases i belive that we as Americans need to get invloved more in politics and not just go and vote in the election but actualy go to the primaries and cacuses and make sure our voice is herd and we have canidates running that we like and want to be our president, senator, congresman, and not just puting one in becuase he or she is lesser of the two evils.

  5. I don't think it is right to say when voting for our president that "you're voting for the lesser of two evils." Actually I think that if you are an informed voter and you know what you believe in and you believe the person you choose to elect is the right person for the job, then how is that voting for a lesser of two evils? I agree that too many people are uninformed when they vote, but too many people also don't feel the need to dig a little deeper than mainstream television to look for their facts.

  6. And another thing to add, if you feel you are voting for the lesser of two evils.....don't vote, it's that simple.

  7. First if I must say I don't believe you were being racist at all, you were giving your opinion like everyone else did on this page. Second, lesser of the two evils? Please, we are not voting for prom queen here, this is the grown up world and if we are voting for the person who is going to rule this country...a persons beliefs, values, and education of the two candidates and which they believe would rule our country would be better in deciding. No matter what, which ever president got elected would have had to deal with this harsh economic time, with the war in the Middle East, the illegal immigration "problem", our national debt...these are serious issues and I could not imagine being the person in charge of making the decisions on how to solve these issues. Obama will make mistakes while in office...every president does..that's the glory of being human. I do not think anyone who did not vote for him were doing it because they were racist if they did their homework and decided McCain would have been a better leader and taken better care of the issues we face here in the U.S.

  8. First of all, looking at voting as having to decide which person is less evil is a stupid way to look at it. Why would you vote for someone that you don't agree with and give them the power to make laws and set the rules for this country that you have to abid by? Honestly, there is no person in politics that does every single thing they say they will. They say the stuff you want to hear. They do it so that you will elect them into office. I ask those that voted for Obama, what change did he Specifically say he was going to make to America that made you want to vote for him. I may be wrong, but all I remember him saying is that it was time for a change. Then if you want to talk about the war that is going on, which person was the "lesser of two evils?" The Dems. said that they would end the war and yet it's funny because the Pres sent 15,000 more troops to Afganastan. I truely hope that he can bring back the strong economy that we once had and I hope that he does end the war. Just something to think about.

  9. I think what the person was talking about was really the machine of government and it's ties to big business. To say that you shouldn't vote because you don't completely agree with one guy is not a good arguement. You wont find a single person that over half of america whole heartedly believes. So the lesser of two evils, I think, is an accurate portrayal of what the white house race is all about. I think what we should do is remove the money aspect. Dick Cheney owns a company that does business with Iran! That's crazy... The fact that the vice presidential debates in 04' didn't end with "and they do business with Iran!?!?!?" is insane. They were all playing the game. Dick Cheney is a bad man. I think that everything they did was hypocritical. They weren't only playing to their supporters, they were playing to their own greed. That's why I feel that Bush was a terrible president. Obama may or may not have been supported by big business, but I was under the impression that it was illegal to take campaign donations from corporations. Maybe I'm wrong, but the thing is that I don't see Obama like I see Bush or like I see McCaine. McCaine played the "game" more than Obama and that's why I didn't vote for him. The electoral college is a joke. It should be removed. The fact that it's republicans or democrats is a joke. You shouldn't have to get the party approval to be elected, you should have to get the peoples approval. Having a Republican and a Democrat argue about who is better, to put it in the words of Jon Stewart is like Coke and Pepsi argueing about beverage supremecy. It's ridiculous and it shouldn't happen. Party politics is what is tearing this country apart, or so I think. Being party loyal is what gets you elected. It shouldn't be that way. As far as how to fix it goes... I have no idea, but that's what people should be focused on. Removing the political gains, and removing the money incentives is the only way to have a true honest man elected. Once the incentives are gone, the only person that should want the job is someone who is going to be focused on what is best for the people. I think the system is crazy. I think that the government machine is out of control. I don't know how to fix it. I wish I did.
