Who is at fault?

Whats holding us back from changing our views about other races? Is it the stubborn who are unreceptive to new ideas, close-minded, sexist, cynical, and negative people that are over opinionated and stuck in their ways? Or is it simply that some people are still learning racism from others?

  1. i think that part of it is learning things from others and our parents seem to take a big toll on our lives and we will most likely take after at least some of their traits and thoughts that they have towards certain things. I also think that some people just like to hate or dislike other people for reasons that are unknown. It is like the issue for world peace it has to be mutual to stop the racism and while others or hating each other it can be a hard feat to over come and i don't think that there will ever be a time with no racism just different kinds of racism. I think that i would be great if we could just drop it and go on to do better things but for every one to agree to it is another thing entirely.

  2. i think people are afraid of what they dont know or what's different. & since they're different they assume things about other based on what they hear or see. they see what covers you & thats enough to make a "fair" judgment on you. as long there are different kinds people there'll be racism & that cant be changed.

  3. i think that some people dont want to change their views because they are comfortable with what they know and dont want to step outside their box. And people are def still learning racism from others you see it on t.v you see it in your every day life i think that racism is a never ending cycle

  4. I will have to agree with the other comments on this subject, there will always be some form of racism in the world because mankind is not perfect. I believe people can pick up racism from parents, friends, other kids at school, or maybe the neighborhood they grow up in. Racism is also something a person can develop on their own as well, maybe a person can't get a job because he is white, it happens, certain businesses have to hire a specific number of ethnics or handicapped people, so I think that could lead to some racism for some people. 5. I agree with Nate, our parents do influence us and we do take traits from them on certain things.(I really like your world peace concept)
I also think that media and other sources put all other races down which isn't right or label them as bad. A lot of people are afraid and don't want anything different. (like zein said) Some people dont give other races a chance to get to know them. I have mentioned this before but after 9/11 people were so afraid of someone who was wearing a turbon or just not "normal" (to them)

  7. I agree with all the above comments and I think a big problem is all the people who say they are not racist and yet they make racist jokes, believe in racist stereotypes, and look down upon people of color, all that seems a bit racist if you ask me.All i know is that everyone is a person no matter what color.

  8. I have to agree with all of the post. Parents influence how we live, what we can and can't do, and what we see and hear for the first part of our lives.
Then a lot of people just like to believe what they hear. They are comforable with what they believe and they don't want to be told that what they assumed was wrong.
I also don't think that we can blame it on that we are still learning about races, because the knowleadge is out there for people to learn, they just have to want to learn it- just most people are too lazy to try or they look for the truth in the wrong places.

  9. Not only do I agree with the others who posted before me, but I also think it has something to do with ones social life. Most kids when they are young try to conform themselves into being a "cool kid." If that means making fun of another kid who doesn't not only look like you, but act and think like you, chances are that child will be made fun of. The people in our social circle have more of an effect on us then most people think.

  10. i think hte media has alot to do with it too. they will play up the stereotypes inorder to get good ratings. and watching things like that from the time we were little, they kinda get stuck in your head, and whether you want to believe them or not, you remember them.

  11. I don't think you can place the blame for the current situation on any one group of people. It's been a long running effort by a few groups that are helping keep racism a problem. I also tend to agree that racism can be taught by families.

  12. i agree a lot with what has been said here and i also think that it would depend on where you live and how people are percieved there. also who the people are that you socialize with or the views you are brought up with and what kinds of ways we are thought or learned from others/parents. i agree with zein on how we can be afraid of whats different or what we don't know much about.

  13. I think continuing racists thought is the easy way out for some people. It is hard to be different, and it can be hard sometimes to view everyone as equal if you are constantly hit with racist, sexist, or other discriminatory comments, no matter if they are towards you or others. So, many people do the easy thing and just agree with those who are so close minded and egotistical to think that some people are better than other people.

  14. I think that all of these problems are presently a factor in overcoming racial tensions, but I think that our country as a whole is headed in the right direction. I sincerely believe that the only thing that is needed for improvement is time.

  15. i think we are all products of our environment to some extent but we are responsible for learning what is appropriate as well we have to be able to work and live with other races and cultures and make it work because now (and more than likely forever) we are a diverse nation and need to realize that in order to get ahead who knows if it is possible though seems like we thrive on chaos and drama

  16. I think our past and how we were brought up is the main thing holding us back from changing our views. Also the fact that many these days are very uneducated on history and major historical events. The subborn people affect many others who are easily persuaded, and also are the people who influence people still learning racism from others.
