Other than the blog, whats was your favorite part about the class? What have you learned that you didn't know before? What will you take away? Will your actions change around other races?

  1. For me, just learning multicultural history from a much different perspective was really fun and interesting! I know the general themes of the book A Different Mirror will stick with me for a long time. I don't think my actions will change around other races. I feel that the way I act and behave around all races is appropriate. I try hard not to offend anyone in anyway, but at the same time doing that can sometimes get yourself into trouble.

  2. My favorite part about the class is the discussions over the chapters of A Different Mirror. I really like the book and I have learned a lot in class. Before this class I was respectful of other groups, but always at a distance. The things we have learned in this class have made it easier to let my guard down and get to know people from other groups.

  3. I have always conducted myself well around other ethnic groups. So therefore, my behaviour will not change. All I have recieved from this class is a stronger resolve for what I believe in. This class has been interesting, but I did not particularly enjoy it. Many things we learned about I already knew, but there are a few things I will remember. Ian

  4. Prolly hearing what everyone thinks about the different topics in class. I also learned alot of things about how all the different groups of people came to America and how rough it was for them. Plus that i'm thankful that i didn't have to deal with those kind of struggles growing up like are ancestors did.

  6. This class i think has opened up my view point on other races i have never considered my self racist by any means but after having this class it opened up a new way to look at other races and the struggles they went though to be Americans, come to America and make better lives for themselves. i agree with Cox im so happy i did not have to go through the struggles like they did i know for a fact i would not be able to handle it. Also Thanksgiving and the history behined it i had no clue thats what thanksgiving was all about.

  7. I have learned that unfair policies and oppression of minorities is very complex and not easy to resolve. If it takes 200 years of oppression how can the group recover from just a few years of "fair" laws. To this day we overlook how we continue to oppresses the minority group. Not as individuals but as institution's.

  8. I really enjoyed this class. My favorite part was that I was in a small class that had time for everyone to dicuss and state their opions. It was really intresting to talk about things in a small group as well as on this blog- even though some of the things were directed at certian classes i Liked it.
I think I will take a lot from this class. I knew a lot of this but it was a really good eye opener about the American Indians. This class also had me talking to my family about it, I realized how much I could have learned by talking to them and their experinces.
I think that everyone should learn about history from many points of view.
The only thing that has changed with my actions is I don't allow my friends to say the N word around me. I know that is a hot topic for most people. I always knew it was bad but this class got me really thinking about it. Even if my friends are all white and no black people are around when they say it... somehow I feel like it is disrespecting everyone.

  11. This class has taught me alot about what other ethinic groups had to go through and what they are still going through. this class has made me more aware of discrimination and prejudice. I never knew that there was so many differne terms and theories that explained why races are treated the way they are. i am very glad that i took this class and was able to learn so much about every ethnic group.

  12. my favorite thing was probably just rounding myself out more. school is about getting an education and better ones self, by taking the class it has helped me to realize how imperfect our country is. yes we to live in a great country with promise and lots of other things as well, but we also have to realize the mistakes we have made. by taking this class i have made myself a better person for the future.

  13. I really enjoyed this class, and I learned a lot. I liked Vincent N. Parrillo’s book, mostly because it taught me more about why and how prejudice and discrimination are incorporated into our society today. It was also interesting to learn more about the Native American History, since that’s something that till now has fallen short in my other classes. This class was certainly not what I had expected it to be, but it still was fun, and I really have benefited from listening to some peoples discussions in class and on the blog.

  14. This class has shown me how people of all races have been discriminated against. Just because we are white we haven't seen the downside of racism just because of our skin color. I especially liked the book "A Different Mirror" because it allowed us to learn how racism started right when the whites came to this country. It separated each ethnic group into their own chapters and defined each major milestone in how racism developed.

  15. I enjoyed learning history through different views. I also enjoyed the in-class discussions that we had, it is always good to hear others thoughts on things. It does not matter whether we agree with them or not, what matters is that we listen to each other. I don't think my actions will change much towards other races. Growing up I was taught to treat others the way that you want them to treat you, and there was never a race clause in there. I would like to thank everyone in class for making it a worth while experience.

  16. Ian, once again, WOW your like out there and its definately not a good out there. This class was fun, except for the non exsistent grading technique. Apparantly we are "better than harvard students" and hardly anyone got a good grade. I pretty much wouldn't take another class of his.
